What colour is coming in and what colour is out?
I get asked this all the time. I personally think this is only important if you are selling your home. You should pick a colour that you love if you are going to be living in the home for a long time. Who cares if you are painting a trendy colour if you don’t like it, it won’t make you feel good in your home? If you are selling, it is a different story. You want to make sure your home puts its best foot forward. The potential home owners want to move in without having to make a lot of changes. It is best to paint the home in a neutral colour which is trending at the time of sale. To make your home look larger, paint all the rooms the same colour. Avoid personalizing any of the rooms with accent walls or colours that are bold. The new homeowners can paint their master bedroom with a red accent wall if it suits their decor but if you do it, a potential buyer might not like red and they will see it as something they will have to change.
Designers for painting companies come up with the colour of the year every year. They try to predict what will be popular based on a number of things in the market place. In order to be up to date with the trends, you would have to paint your house every year. I would love to do that for you, but it isn’t practical for the majority of the population.
In answer to the question above, right this moment in time, grey seems to be on the out and believe it or not, white is coming in. White is a hard colour to work with. It will highlight a lot of imperfections in your home. If you have older furniture and older woodwork and cabinets, it will highlight their age. I think this colour is best used in a newer, more modern home. However, this is just my opinion. It reminds me of the builder’s beige era. The personality is gone.
